On May 27, 2025, the Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee announced that no one sighted the Zilhaj moon in any part of Pakistan. Consequently, Eidul Azha will be celebrated on Saturday, June 7, 2025. The committee made the announcement after holding its main meeting at the Kohsar Block in Islamabad, while zonal teams held simultaneous meetings in all provincial capitals.
Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad, the Chairman of the Ruet-i-Hilal Committee, confirmed that no one from any region of the country provided credible testimony of moon sightings. “It was decided with consensus that Zilhaj 1, 1446 AH will fall on Thursday, May 29, and Eidul Azha will be celebrated on Saturday, June 7,” he stated.
Scientific Observations Supported Low Visibility
Before the official announcement, the Pakistan Meteorological Department and the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco) had indicated a low chance of moon visibility. According to Suparco, while the astronomical new moon was born on May 27, visibility was unlikely due to cloudy conditions and the moon’s marginal positioning.
These predictions aligned with the committee’s final decision, reinforcing the reliability of both scientific data and traditional moon-sighting practices.

Eidul Azha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, holds immense religious significance for Muslims. It commemorates the obedience of Prophet Ibrahim (AS), who was willing to sacrifice his son Ismail (AS) as an act of submission to Allah’s command.
