Grok 3 is the latest version of xAI’s proprietary AI model, designed to rival OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google DeepMind offerings. With enhanced reasoning and conversational abilities, Grok 3 is built to answer complex queries and provide deeper contextual understanding. It comes in two variants: Grok 3 and Grok 3 Mini, offering flexibility in performance and pricing.
API Access and Pricing
Developers can tap into Grok 3’s power through xAI’s new API. xAI tiers the pricing based on performance:
Grok 3:
- $3 per million input tokens
- $15 per million output tokens
- Premium: $5 input / $25 output per million tokens
Grok 3 Mini:
- $0.30 per million input tokens
- $0.50 per million output tokens
- Premium: $0.60 input / $4 output per million tokens
The context window for Grok 3 is capped at 131,072 tokens, less than the previously claimed 1 million tokens, but still highly capable for most AI applications.

Neutrality and Use Cases
When Grok was first introduced, Musk promoted it as an “edgy” and “unfiltered” model willing to answer controversial questions that other AI tools might avoid. However, earlier versions drew criticism for political bias. With Grok 3, xAI aims to strike a more neutral tone, making it better suited for enterprise use cases such as customer service, content creation, research, and more.
Developer-Centric Vision
With this API launch, xAI is stepping into a competitive space, directly challenging OpenAI’s GPT, Google’s Gemini, and Anthropic’s Claude. The focus is clearly on empowering developers to build apps and services using Grok’s powerful language understanding and generation capabilities.
