Astronauts Land Safely Pacific as four astronauts from three different countries successfully returned to Earth after completing a nearly five-month mission aboard the International Space Station (ISS). The SpaceX Crew-10 capsule, carrying NASA astronauts Anne McClain and Nichole Ayers, Japan’s Takuya Onishi, and Russia’s Kirill Peskov, splashed down in the Pacific Ocean near San Diego on Saturday morning, August 9, 2025.
This marks NASA’s first Pacific splashdown in 50 years, returning to a landing zone last used during the 1975 Apollo-Soyuz mission.
Smooth Splashdown and Recovery
The Crew-10 Dragon undocked from the ISS at 10:15 pm UTC Friday, completing a 17-hour journey back to Earth. The capsule re-entered the atmosphere and parachuted into calm Pacific waters at 8:44 am local time. Recovery teams quickly secured the spacecraft and assisted the astronauts out for medical checks before their return to Houston.
Science and International Cooperation
During their mission, the crew conducted a range of experiments in microgravity, including studies on plant growth, cellular behavior, and materials science. These experiments aim to support future deep-space missions and improve life on Earth.
Commander Anne McClain emphasized the importance of global unity in space exploration, stating:
“We want this mission… to be a reminder of what people can do when we work together, when we explore together.”

A Notable Crew Transition
The splashdown also coincided with a unique crew rotation. NASA astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams, who had been stranded on the ISS for nine months due to Boeing Starliner issues, are now set to return home via a future SpaceX mission.
