Google has officially rolled out its AI Mode in Pakistan, offering users the company’s most advanced AI-powered search experience yet. Initially introduced in the United States earlier this year, the feature now extends to Pakistani users on mobile and desktop platforms.
What is AI Mode?
AI Mode is powered by a custom version of Google’s Gemini 2.5 model, designed to understand longer and more complex queries—often two to three times lengthier than traditional searches. It supports multimodal input in English, allowing users to interact via text, voice, or images.
How It Works
The feature employs a “query fan-out” technique: it breaks a single question into subtopics, performs simultaneous searches, and compiles comprehensive responses. When confidence in answer quality is low, AI Mode defaults back to classic search results.
Use Cases in Pakistan
- Travel: Users can ask, for instance, “I’m planning a trip to Hunza in October—suggest a 5-day itinerary balancing sightseeing, adventure, and local food,” and then follow up with prompts like, “Can you recommend some local food spots?”
- Education: A parent might request, “Can you suggest free online resources in Pakistan to help with Grade 9 algebra and geometry?” followed by queries like, “Recommend interactive apps or YouTube channels for Grade 9 math practice.”
- Everyday Utility: Users can also upload elements like a photo of spices from a local market and ask, “What are these spices and how can I use them in Pakistani cooking?”

Early Impressions & Context
Google reports that early testers submit significantly longer queries in AI Mode, underscoring its value for exploratory tasks such as product comparisons, trip planning, and detailed “how-to” questions.
The rollout now includes English access for users via the Google app (Android & iOS), as well as mobile and desktop web platforms.
Broader Landscape of AI-Enhanced Search
This expansion in Pakistan is part of Google’s broader deployment of AI innovations in search. Earlier features like AI Overviews—AI-generated summaries atop relevant search results—have been globally available since late 2024. More recently, Google introduced the experimental AI-only search mode for Google One AI Premium users in select markets, powered by Gemini 2.0, which replaces traditional blue links with AI summaries.
