Islamabad Welcomes First Fleet Of Electric Buses From China

Electric Buses in Islamabad

The capital city of Pakistan, Islamabad, has leaped forward in modernizing its transport infrastructure with the arrival of the first batch of electric buses from China. These buses, which are part of a larger fleet, are expected to operate on two feeder routes of the Metro Bus Service, enhancing the connectivity and efficiency of public transportation in the city.

The initiative, overseen by the Capital Development Authority (CDA), aims to provide a cleaner, more efficient, and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional diesel-powered buses. The first batch of 30 buses will serve the routes starting from the National University of Science and Technology (NUST) to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), and from PIMS to Bari Imam/Quaid-e-Azam University.

In addition to improving the urban commute, the administration has announced discounted fares for students and disabled individuals, ensuring inclusivity and accessibility. The Jinnah Convention Centre now features a charging station capable of charging 12 buses simultaneously, and a dedicated bus depot for parking is under construction in Sector H-9.

This development not only signifies progress in Islamabad’s Urban Transport Project but also strengthens the China-Pakistan economic corridor’s commitment to sustainable development. The arrival of these electric buses is a testament to the city’s dedication to reducing carbon emissions and addressing climate change concerns.

As the city anticipates the arrival of the remaining buses, residents of Islamabad can look forward to a more sustainable and efficient public transport system that caters to the needs of a growing metropolis.
