Punjab Launches Digital System to Track School Inspections

Punjab digital school inspections

In a progressive move to enhance transparency and accountability, the Punjab School Education Department (SED) has introduced a new system for Punjab digital school inspections, enabling tech-driven monitoring of school performance across the province.. The initiative, implemented with the support of the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB), is set to revolutionize the inspection process of public schools, covering over 52,000 institutions and involving 950 Monitoring and Evaluation Assistants (MEAs).

Geo-Tagged Spot Visits and Real-Time Reporting

Under this system, MEAs are equipped with SIM-enabled tablets that allow them to conduct geo-tagged spot visits to schools. During each inspection, staff digitally record crucial data such as:

  • Teacher presence
  • Student attendance and enrollment
  • Availability of clean drinking water, electricity, toilets, and other basic facilities

MEAs digitally submit the forms in real-time along with photographic evidence, ensuring accurate and up-to-date reporting from the field.

Centralized Dashboards for Public Oversight

All collected data is uploaded to a centralized dashboard, accessible through punjab.gov.pk. The platform displays:

  • Daily and monthly inspection statistics
  • Heat maps of school performance
  • Comparison charts across districts and tehsils

This open data approach enables parents, educators, policymakers, and media to monitor school conditions transparently and hold authorities accountable.

SMS Alerts and Performance Tracking

The system sends SMS alerts to MEAs and district authorities to ensure timely inspections, especially when they miss visits or delay reports. This real-time tracking mechanism allows higher-ups to intervene quickly and address lapses in inspection duties.

“Data is collected on teacher presence, student enrolment and attendance, as well as availability of facilities such as clean drinking water, electricity, and toilets.” – PITB School Monitoring System

A Model for Other Provinces

This digitized system not only strengthens governance but also facilitates evidence-based policy decisions in education. By using technology for real-time monitoring, Punjab sets a precedent for other provinces in Pakistan to follow.
