In a bold move to promote eco-friendly transportation, the Punjab Govt Petrol Bikes initiative has been launched under the Green Credit Program, offering a Rs. 100,000 reward to individuals who convert their petrol-powered motorcycles into electric bikes. Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb made this announcement during a recent press briefing in Lahore.
Green Credit Program
The Green Credit Program aims to financially reward citizens for adopting sustainable practices. Apart from e-bike conversions, the program also encourages other green initiatives such as tree planting, LED light installation, and eco-conscious living habits. Participants are issued “green credits,” which can later be redeemed as cash incentives or discounts on services.
How the Bike Conversion Reward Works
Motorcyclists who opt to convert their petrol bikes into electric vehicles can apply for the reward by registering on the official Green Credit Program portal. Upon verification, they will receive a Rs. 100,000 incentive, which can be claimed as direct cash or green credit points. This measure is expected to significantly reduce carbon emissions in urban areas, where two-wheelers are a major source of air pollution.
Broader Environmental Efforts
Alongside the bike conversion program, the Punjab government is implementing several other environmental initiatives. Initiatives include large-scale tree plantations along Lahore Ring Road and reclaiming forest lands previously encroached, promoting greener urban development.
