The Punjab government has imposed Section 144 in Murree ahead of Eid-ul-Adha to maintain law and order, regulate tourist activity, and ensure the safety of thousands of visitors expected during the holiday season. The restrictions came into effect on May 21 and will remain enforced until May 31, 2026.
According to official notifications issued by the district administration, the decision was made due to the expected heavy influx of tourists visiting Murree during the Eid holidays. Authorities fear overcrowding, traffic congestion, and public disturbances if precautionary measures are not implemented in advance.
Families Allowed on Mall Road Only
As part of the restrictions, only families will be allowed entry to the famous Mall Road area during Eid al-Adha holidays. Gatherings other than family groups have been restricted in order to maintain a peaceful and family-friendly environment.
The administration stated that these steps are intended to improve crowd management and provide tourists with a safer experience while visiting Murree’s busiest commercial and recreational areas.
Ban on Weapons, Fireworks, and Hooliganism
Authorities have also announced a strict ban on aerial firing, fireworks, public disturbance, hooliganism, and the display or possession of firearms across Murree. Law enforcement agencies have been directed to take immediate legal action against anyone violating the orders under Section 144.
Officials warned that strict monitoring would continue throughout the Eid holidays to prevent any untoward incidents in the hill station.
Security and Traffic Management Plan Finalized
District administration and police have finalized a comprehensive plan for security and traffic management to handle anticipated tourist influx. Reports indicate hundreds of police and traffic personnel will be deployed at Mall Road, entry points, parking areas, and attractions.
Authorities plan checkpoints and monitoring teams to manage traffic, assist tourists, and ensure smooth travel during Eid holiday rush.
Punjab-Wide Section 144 Restrictions Also Enforced
Punjab Home Department enforces Section 144 in sensitive provincial areas, including airports and Pakistan Air Force bases, alongside Murree. Restrictions during Eid al-Adha prohibit laser lights, pigeon flying, and sacrificial waste disposal near airports, ensuring aviation safety compliance.
Officials said these province-wide measures are aimed at protecting public safety, maintaining cleanliness, and avoiding disruptions during the festive season.
Administration Urges Tourists to Cooperate
Travelers have also been advised to check weather and traffic updates before traveling to Murree to avoid unnecessary congestion. Murree, Pakistan’s Eid hotspot, draws thousands yearly with pleasant weather, scenic beauty, and family-friendly atmosphere, remaining a favorite destination.
