Elon Musk’s xAI has stopped treating Grok as just a chatbot. On August 11, the company launched Grok Bot, an always-on AI agent pitched as a digital “teammate” you message like a colleague, hand a task to, and let run in the background.
This is not another chat window. Grok Bot gets its own cloud computer, signs into your apps and websites, and works through multi-step jobs on its own, only pinging you when it needs approval or hits a decision it can’t make alone.
It puts xAI directly in the ring with OpenAI’s ChatGPT Work, Anthropic’s Claude Cowork, and Microsoft’s Copilot Tasks, all of which have been racing to turn AI from a Q&A tool into something that actually does the work.
Real Work, Assigned
xAI announced Grok Bot in beta on August 11, 2026, calling it an AI teammate you can give real work to. According to the company, Bots are AI teammates that sign in to your tools, use them just like you do, and come back with finished work.
The bigger technical shift sits underneath the chat interface. According to xAI, Grok Bot gains access to its own virtual computer and can interact with applications without requiring an API or MCP connection for every service. That means it can work inside apps that were never built for AI integration, simply by clicking around as a person would.
Its Own Computer
According to the company, every Bot is assigned its own cloud-based computer, which lets it use software, browse websites, and operate other tools much like a human user. Some documentation clarifies this isn’t a hard security wall between Bots on the same account, so xAI advises against treating separate Bots as an isolation boundary.
Learns By Watching
Instead of building a workflow from scratch, Bots can be trained by observing users as they carry out tasks, storing the sequence of actions to reproduce it later, and refining that process based on user corrections. According to xAI, users can assign Bots to sales, operations, recruiting, inbox management, or engineering, with multiple Bots running simultaneously. Some setups even let a Chief of Staff Bot coordinate specialized sub-bots, with agents messaging each other and sharing context.
Once a task is handed off, Bot completes it independently, returning only when human approval is needed or review is required.
From Operator To Supervisor
AI is changing daily work: users can delegate tasks, wait for results, and become supervisors instead of constantly operating AI.
For creators, small businesses, and solo operators, the real pitch is less chatbot babysitting, more assigning tasks and checking later.
According to xAI, Grok Bot can currently be used to update CRM entries and sales records, draft sales follow-up emails, process invoices, replicate and document software bugs, generate engineering tickets, and manage inbox and calendar tasks.

Pricing And Access
Grok Bot doesn’t have a standalone price. It’s bundled into three existing premium tiers:

Grok Bot’s desktop app is live on macOS, Windows, and Linux, plus an iOS app. Android support is listed as “coming soon.” Enterprise customers are being routed to a waitlist rather than getting immediate access.
The Bigger Picture
Grok Bot joins xAI, SpaceX, and Cursor under one umbrella, with Cursor subscriptions now providing direct access to Grok Bot. It also puts pressure on rivals. AI labs compete over trusted agents that work independently, handle logins securely, and reliably complete tasks while users remain away.
Worth It Yet?
Grok Bot is a genuine step toward AI that works for you, not just with you. The idea, an AI teammate that learns your workflow and reports finished work, reflects exactly where the industry is heading. But it’s early. The beta requires expensive plans, lacks a model picker, and its “own computer” claims conflict with shared-environment documentation.
