Pakistanis may soon receive significant relief in petroleum prices as the federal government moves to pass on the benefits of falling international oil prices to consumers.
According to Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the relevant authorities to ensure that the decline in global crude oil prices is reflected in domestic fuel prices as quickly as possible. The announcement comes after international oil markets witnessed a notable decline, with crude prices falling to their lowest level in nearly three months.
PM Directs Immediate Relief for Consumers
Speaking about the government’s plans, Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik said that the prime minister has instructed officials to transfer the benefit of lower international oil prices directly to the public.
The minister noted that the government is actively monitoring developments in global energy markets and intends to ensure that consumers receive timely relief whenever international prices decline.
Weekly Fuel Pricing Mechanism Under Consideration
The government has also formed a high-level committee to develop a more transparent weekly pricing mechanism for petroleum products. The proposed system aims to help consumers better understand the factors behind fuel price changes.
The minister said that the government will finalize the formula after consulting all relevant stakeholders, ensuring greater transparency in future fuel price adjustments.
Global Oil Prices Continue to Decline
The anticipated relief follows a sharp decline in international oil prices. Reports indicate that global crude oil prices have fallen significantly in recent days due to improved regional stability and expectations of increased oil supply.
Earlier estimates suggested that petrol prices in Pakistan could decrease by up to Rs. 20 per litre, while high-speed diesel could witness an even larger reduction if current international trends continue.
The ex-refinery cost of petrol reportedly declined from Rs. 245 per litre to around Rs. 225 per litre, while diesel prices also fell substantially during the same period.

Energy Security Measures Also Being Reviewed
Alongside fuel pricing reforms, the government is reviewing Pakistan’s broader energy security framework. Officials are working on several initiatives to protect national interests, improve energy resilience, and ensure uninterrupted fuel supplies in the future.
The Petroleum Minister emphasized that these measures are part of a long-term strategy to strengthen Pakistan’s energy sector while providing maximum benefit to consumers.
Relief Expected in Upcoming Price Revision
While the final reduction will depend on the government’s pricing decision and petroleum levy considerations, expectations remain high that consumers will see a meaningful cut in petrol and diesel prices in the upcoming fuel price revision.
If approved, the move could help reduce transportation costs, ease inflationary pressures, and provide much-needed financial relief to households and businesses across the country.
