The match played at the Arnos Vale Stadium in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, was a testament to Afghanistan’s growing prowess in international cricket.
Opting to bat first, Afghanistan set a target of 116 runs, which was later adjusted to 114 in 19 overs due to rain interruptions. Despite a challenging pitch, Rahmanullah Gurbaz top-scored with 43 runs, and Bangladesh’s Rishad Hossain shone with a 3-26 bowling performance.
Bangladesh’s chase faltered against a disciplined Afghan bowling attack. Rashid Khan, leading from the front, took 4-23, while Naveen-ul-Haq contributed 4-26. Bangladesh was bowled out for 105 in the 18th over, falling just short of the target.
“This is a monumental achievement for Afghanistan cricket. The team’s hard work and determination have paid off,” said Rashid Khan, Afghanistan’s captain.“
“Our bowlers executed the plans perfectly, and this victory is for all our fans back home,” added Naveen-ul-Haq.“
