In a significant development ahead of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) Season 10, former Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed has been appointed as the team director of Quetta Gladiators. The franchise announced the announcement, marking a fresh chapter in Sarfaraz’s long-standing relationship with the team he has led since the league’s inception in 2016.
Sarfaraz Ahmed, known for his tactical acumen and leadership skills, was pivotal in shaping the Gladiators’ identity. Throughout nine PSL seasons, he featured in 86 matches for Quetta, scoring 1,525 runs at an average of 29.32, with seven half-centuries to his name. Under his captaincy, the Quetta Gladiators clinched their first and only PSL title in 2019, a victory that remains one of the most celebrated moments in the franchise’s history.
Earlier in January 2025, Sarfaraz announced his departure from Quetta Gladiators, stating,
“Today, I want to tell you that my time with Quetta Gladiators has ended, and I feel very proud that my journey of 9 years with this amazing team has been wonderful and beautiful.”
However, in a surprising yet welcomed turn of events, team owner Nadeem Omar announced Sarfaraz’s appointment as the team director. Speaking about the decision, Omar said,
“Sarfaraz led QG well as a captain, and I am hopeful he will do the same as Director too.”
This move signifies a strategic shift for the franchise as they aim to strengthen their management structure and benefit from Sarfaraz’s deep understanding of the game and the team. His new role as director is expected to focus on guiding player development, contributing to match strategies, and supporting the coaching staff throughout the season.
As PSL 10 gears up to kick off on April 11, 2025, fans and analysts alike are optimistic that Sarfaraz’s return in a leadership capacity will rejuvenate the Gladiators’ campaign and restore their competitive edge.
