Sony has officially introduced the Xperia 1 VIII, bringing one of the biggest visual redesigns in Xperia history. The company has moved away from the slim vertical camera strip used in previous Xperia flagships and replaced it with a larger square-shaped camera module positioned at the top-left corner of the device.
The new design gives the smartphone a more modern flagship appearance while still maintaining Sony’s signature minimalist style. The phone features a textured matte glass back combined with aluminum side rails for improved grip and durability. Sony is also offering the Xperia 1 VIII in multiple color options, including Graphite Black, Iolite Silver, Garnet Red, and Native Gold.
Despite the redesign, Sony has retained several features that fans appreciate, including front-facing stereo speakers, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and expandable microSD card support.

The Xperia 1 VIII’s main highlight is its significantly upgraded camera hardware. Sony has introduced a much larger telephoto sensor measuring 1/1.56 inches, which is nearly four times larger than the telephoto sensor used in the Xperia 1 VII.

Sony is introducing a new AI-powered system called “Xperia Intelligence” with the Xperia 1 VIII. The feature analyzes scenes in real time and automatically adjusts settings like exposure, white balance, depth effects, and lens recommendations.
The AI assistant can recognize landscapes, portraits, food photography, pets, and low-light environments to optimize camera performance automatically. Sony says the goal is to make professional-level photography easier for everyday users while still giving creators access to manual controls.
The Camera app has also received a redesigned interface inspired by Sony Alpha cameras, allowing users to switch between photography and videography modes more quickly.

Sony continues to focus heavily on multimedia performance with the Xperia 1 VIII. The device features a 6.5-inch OLED LTPO display with a 120Hz refresh rate and support for HDR content. The screen delivers vibrant colors, deep contrast, and adaptive refresh rate adjustments for smoother scrolling and better battery efficiency.
Powering the device is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, paired with up to 16GB of RAM and up to 1TB of internal storage. Sony claims the upgraded cooling system helps maintain stable performance during gaming, 4K recording, and multitasking.

Sony has announced the Xperia 1 VIII with premium flagship pricing. The smartphone starts at:

- €1,999 for the 16GB RAM + 1TB storage model
The device is initially launching in Europe and parts of Asia. Sony reportedly has no plans to launch the smartphone in the United States officially. Pre-orders are already live in select regions, and Sony is offering free WH-1000XM6 headphones with early purchases in some markets.
