Meta just showed its most ambitious eyewear yet. At Connect 2026, the company launched three new pairs of smart glasses: its first Meta VR Glasses, the camera-free Ray-Ban Meta Audio, and the third-generation Ray-Ban Meta. There was also a surprise gadget for your keychain.
The headline is the $1,299 Meta VR Glasses, a VR headset shrunk down to a pair of glasses. The other big move is a Ray-Ban with no camera at all, which speaks directly to the privacy backlash around smart glasses.

Mark Zuckerberg took the stage in Menlo Park, California, on Wednesday, September 23. Meta announced four new hardware devices: Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3, Ray-Ban Meta Audio, Meta VR Glasses, and the Muse Charm.
The keynote also leaned hard on Muse, Meta’s AI agent. It now works with shopping and productivity platforms and can be customized, from its look to its voice.
Key Details: Meta VR Glasses
The glasses weigh around 100 grams and use dual 120Hz micro-OLED displays at 2412×2288 per eye, Meta’s highest resolution yet. There is a catch. Meta advertises a 70° × 66° field of view, well below Quest 3’s roughly 110° × 96°.
To stay light, the brains sit elsewhere. The glasses have no onboard computing and rely on a tethered puck with a Snapdragon Reality Elite chip, connected by a fiber optic cable.

Controllers are not included by default. You can buy Touch Plus controllers or pair ones from a Quest 3 or 3S.
Why It Matters
Older VR headsets are bulky. These aim to be something you’d actually carry in a bag. Zuckerberg pitched them as a cinema, a computer, and a console in one device.
The open-periphery design lets you see the real world at your sides and below you. That makes them more useful for movies and work than for full immersion.

- Games: More than 75 “hands-enhanced” VR titles will arrive at launch, including a new Beat Saber version.
- Movies and sports: Disney+ will get an Immersive Cinema mode with Infinity War and Star Wars: A New Hope. Live sports are a focus too.
- Hologram calls: Hologram works like Vision Pro’s Personas, letting you appear as a realistic avatar in WhatsApp calls. At launch it is a “2.5D” front-angle view, and Meta plans to upgrade it later.
- Muse AI: It runs on the glasses for tasks like scheduling.
The Camera-Free Ray-Ban Meta Audio
The $349 Ray-Ban Meta Audio glasses have no cameras, so they look like standard Ray-Bans and offer up to 12 hours of battery life. You still get music and Muse AI chat.
The design also answers a common complaint. Removing the cameras eliminates one of the main criticisms: that wearers can record people without their knowledge.

Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3 and Muse Charm
Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3 is available now from $449. It’s an incremental update. The new frames are thinner and add one more hour of battery life and a dedicated AI action button. There are six microphones now, plus spatial audio recording and new Aviator and cat-eye styles.
The Muse Charm is a keychain-style AI device. It answers questions without a phone connection, and Zuckerberg said only a few have been built so far.

Hearing Enhancement, an FDA-approved over-the-counter feature for adults with mild to moderate hearing loss, arrives later this year on select glasses. Reports differ on the cost. Official Statements and Privacy
Zuckerberg said Muse has built-in privacy, including secure servers Meta itself cannot view, and he mentioned the recording LED on camera glasses. Still, Tom’s Guide noted very little was said about the privacy issues that have dogged Meta over the past year.
Industry Impact
Smart glasses are booming despite the controversy. Counterpoint reports global AI glasses shipments rose 263% year over year in the first half of 2026. The competition is heating up:
- Snap’s Specs start at $2,195.
- Xreal’s Aura Android XR glasses are a similar concept, but with a smaller 70° field of view.
