The Punjab government has officially announced summer vacations for all public and private schools across the province from May 22 to August 23, 2026. The decision was made due to the rapidly increasing temperatures and expected heatwave conditions in different parts of Punjab.

Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat confirmed the schedule while stating that the safety and health of students, teachers, and school staff remain the government’s top priority during the extreme summer season.

Punjab Schools to Remain Closed for Three Months

According to the official notification, educational institutions across Punjab will remain closed for more than three months. Schools are expected to reopen on August 24, 2026, after the completion of summer vacations.

The decision applies to both government and private educational institutions operating under the Punjab School Education Department. Authorities believe the extended break will help protect children from harsh weather conditions that are expected to intensify in the coming weeks.

Rising Temperatures Prompt Early Closure

Punjab has already started experiencing severe heat in several cities, with temperatures crossing normal seasonal averages. Weather experts have warned that the province could face intense heatwaves during June and July. Due to these concerns, the government decided to announce vacations earlier than usual to avoid health risks such as dehydration, heatstroke, and other heat-related illnesses among students.

Officials said classrooms in many schools become extremely hot during peak daytime hours, making it difficult for students to concentrate and continue academic activities safely.

Education Minister Confirms Vacation Schedule

Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat stated that the vacation period has been finalized after reviewing weather forecasts and consulting relevant departments.

He said the government aims to keep students safe during extreme summer, while schools prepare for the next academic phase. The minister urged parents to take proper care of children during the summer break and avoid unnecessary outdoor activities during peak heat hours.

Parents and Students Welcome the Decision

The announcement has been welcomed by parents and students across Punjab. Many families expressed relief after hearing the news, especially in areas where temperatures have already reached uncomfortable levels.

Authorities Warn About Heatwave Conditions

Authorities have advised citizens to follow safety precautions during the ongoing heatwave season. People are advised to remain indoors during afternoons, drink sufficient water, and avoid direct sunlight exposure whenever possible for safety. The Pakistan Meteorological Department warns temperatures may stay above normal this summer, especially across central and southern Punjab regions.

Officials stated that if weather conditions worsen further, additional safety advisories may also be issued in the coming weeks.

Schools to Reopen on August 24

As per the announced schedule, schools across Punjab will reopen on August 24, 2026. However, education authorities said any changes in reopening dates would depend on weather conditions and future government notifications.

Students and parents must stay connected to official school communication channels for timely updates and announcements regarding the academic calendar.
